About Rent - A - Nerd !
My name is Mark Gross, and I have been providing businesses and individuals in the Eugene - Springfield and greater Lane County area with a wide range of computer services since 1993. (From 2004 through August 2010, we expanded our service area to include Linn and Benton counties. Although still offering services to previous customers in Linn and Benton counties, we are not currently seeking new customers in those areas.)
Rent - A - Nerd is my business, which I operate as a sole proprietor, but Rent - A - Nerd is also a team of affiliated independent professional computer consultants. Combined, this team has many years of interest, study, and experience in the computer field, with a good mix of talents in various specialties. We offer assistance with both the IBM PC compatible, and Apple Mac compatible platforms and operating systems. Each member of this team of independents accepts full responsibility for their own work.

$36 housecall charge* (see explanation below) + $48 per hour on-site or shop time, 1 hour minimum.

$48 per hour, 1/2 hour minimum for telephone consultations & research.

This rate plan is intended for businesses, home businesses, and for other clients who feel their needs are critical enough to require help as soon as possible. This rate applies to Laptops, Desktops, wired and wireless networks that have some use for business purposes. Priority help is available 7 days a week.

* The standard HOUSECALL charge applies to: locations within the city limits of Eugene and Springfield.
We frequently work outside of these standard housecall charge areas, but we will charge extra for the additional driving time and expense to your location.

2010 Home User** Discount Rate: Laptops or Wireless Networking - for Software work and/or Hardware repair, etc.

Onsite rate: $36 housecall charge* (see explanation above) + $40 per hour on-site or shop time, 1 hour minimum.

$48 per hour, 1/2 hour minimum for telephone consultations & research

Depot*** rate: $52 per hour, 1 hour minimum (special bench rate for work on laptops, data recovery, etc.)

**Our "Home User" rate plans are available for clients who fall within the "home user" category. Home users can take advantage of this rate plan for weekday appointments which begin after 12 noon, or on weekends. We request some scheduling flexibility from you in exchange for the discount. Our home user discount rate plans are not intended for businesses, nor for home businesses in which the computers main usage is business related. The needs and priorities of businesses are very different from those of home users. I believe that these higher priorities and more complex needs justify the higher rates for serving our many business clients.
*** There is no housecall charge associated with our Depot rate, however, you must bring your laptop (or bring/ship us your hard drive in the case of data recovery) to a public place of our technicians choosing. You must also pick it up from our technician, also from a public place of our technicians choosing. We strongly recommend that the return handoff happen at a cafe, a fast food restaurant, or other public location indoors, so you can sit down with our technician present and test your laptop as thoroughly as the location permits, prior to accepting its return. Because of the value of this testing process, this special Depot rate is usually limited to work on laptop computers; we will extend this special Depot rate to desktop computers under special circumstances only.
