Diabetic retinopathy is a condition that causes the tiny blood vessels in the back of the eye to become blocked, leak or even rupture. Early signs can be blurry vision, floating spots or poor night vision. Fortunately, like many of the complications of diabetes, the progression of retinopathy can be slowed or even stopped with early detection and appropriate treatment.

For this reason, Portland Family Practice has recently contracted with EyeTel Imaging to offer eye exams for our patients with diabetes. Now you can get your annual eye exam in the convenience of our office!
The digital images are sent to Wilmer Eye Institute at John Hopkins Medical Center via the phone line after your appointment. Faxed or electronic reports are reported to your provider within 48 hours.
Your diabetic eye exam is billed to your insurance just like a medical appointment.

**Note: If you are already being treated by an ophthalmologist for retinopathy, we encourage
you to continue seeing that physician for regular eye exams.

With the cold winter season fast approaching, we realize that there are many in Portland not as fortunate as we are. Portland Family Practice supports giving back to our community and will be accepting new blankets, hats, scarves, mittens or gloves for a community resource drive. Please bring in any new items to the clinic during the above dates and we will donate these items to a local shelter or transition project. Thank you for your generous spirit and willingness to give.

Portland Family Practice is happy to announce the arrival of seasonal flu vaccines. We have created a list of special dates and times for our patients to schedule getting their vaccine.

Please remember to check with your insurance company for coverage, as not all insurance's cover the vaccine. You also have the option of paying $25.00, due at the time of the service (We offer this special pricing only if we do not have to bill you directly).
