UEC customers often play a very important role in reporting and minimizing power outages, and we appreciate your assistance.
You can call the regular UEC office numbers -- 541-567-6414 or 1-800-452-2273 -- any time day or night to report an outage. After-hours emergency calls will be forwarded to a UEC outage duty representative, who will ask questions about your location and situation. That person then dispatches a line crew to fix the problem. It is helpful to keep the "grid plate" numbers handy and provide that information. Each pole has a grid plate with numbers and letters describing its exact location. The grid plate numbers help line crews to quickly find the precise location of the problem. Meter number, account number, account name and address are also helpful.
UEC wants you to remain safe and comfortable during an electrical outage. There are things you can do before an outage occurs to make it easier for you and your family to get through the outage.
A space heater can make a hard-to-heat room comfortable, but keep safety in mind
A electric space heater can be an excellent source of supplemental heat for your home. It can increase your comfort during cold months-especially in chilly garages, basements, workshops and other areas that may not have central heating. But using a space heater requires attention to safety, as well as comfort.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), more than 100,000 residential fires every year are associated with the use of space heaters. As many as 600 people a year die in these fires.
