We at Westminster come from a variety of backgrounds, and embody a broad spectrum of perspectives. We find unity in Jesus Christ and in this caring community of faith.
We welcome others interested in traveling with us in faith.
Westminster is a church in the Presbyterian (USA) tradition, and thus its theology draws on the heritage of Reformation hallmarks. We believe in salvation by grace through faith, and we see the Scriptures as what Luther called the cradle in which Christ is laid, the medium through which we encounter Gods witness in Christ. While a variety of theological viewpoints are represented within our membership, most would hold as central a belief in the atoning work of Christ and his victory over death in the resurrection. We are a congregation that looks for the fruits of the Spirit to be borne out in our life together and in service of the wider community as we seek to follow the great commandment of Christ, to love God and neighbor.
Our church has a strong commitment to providing an environment that enhances and encourages the spiritual growth of people at all points in their spiritual journey. To do that, we place strong emphasis on developing our youth, providing small-group activities so everyone can participate, using different media to connect with different parts of the congregation, and ensuring new members and visitors are guided toward opportunities for growth.
Westminster is an inclusive congregation focused on spiritual growth through worship, sermons, prayer, study, and music. We enjoy meaningful and engaging worship services that enhance and sustain our spiritual growth. For example, we employ Taize and other contemplative and contemporary music within our traditional worship service. Our communion services are particularly meaningful and participative, and our new Wednesday evening services seek to blend worship with enacted response. Preaching at Westminster is grounded both in Scripture and also in application to contemporary life.
Westminster offers meditative and contemplative opportunities through an early-morning prayer group and evening lectio divina group as well as special silent worship times and retreats during Advent and Lent. Westminster has a permanent outdoor labyrinth available at all times for meditative walking.
Westminster is graced with numerous gifted teachers, and adult Christian education classes provide a lively venue for exploring issues of Scripture, art, faith, and life.
