Nan Grayhawke (Oleha HaShalom) of Staunton, Virginia formerly Nan Gray Lester or Eugene, Oregon, died Thursday, May 6, 2010, at her home. Nan was born April 4, 1961, in New York, a daughter of Margaret Mazurek & Roman Henry “Ray” Mazurek (Alav HaShalom.)
Nan attended George Washington University and graduated with honors from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science, as well as a Master of Science in Psychology, Education and Public Policy. Early in her career, Nan worked as a copywriter and as a producer. Later, she found her calling, founding the Asperger Advocacy Coalition and her private practice, Asperger Counseling Northwest. During her tenure with the Coalition and in her private practice, in partnership with her husband, Nan devoted her public and private life to the benefit of persons with Asperger Syndrome, their families and community.
Nan was an accomplished photographer, explorer and intellect. She was also a Master Gardener – in every meaning of the phrase. Nan had an unquenchable desire for all facets of knowledge, devotion to truth, integrity, honor and faith.
She was a devoted daughter, mother, wife, aunt and friend to many. Humanity was her Mishpacha (Family.)
In addition to her mother, Nan is survived by her children, Max and Oliver Lester; husband, Christopher Grayhawke (formerly Christopher Hawke); sisters, Susan, Victoria and Patricia; three nieces and one nephew. Nan was previously married to Dr. David Lester, the loving and stalwart father of their children.
