:::::: Cannons Reappear After 161 Years ::::::
In September 1846 the U.S. Navy schooner Shark, built on the east coast in 1821, broke into pieces at the mouth of the Columbia River. A large section with three cannons eventually floated ashore in Arch Cape just south of Cannon Beach. One of those cannons was recovered years later and now resides at the Cannon Beach History Center. Today, after 161 years, two cannons, which must be the other two, came into view as the winter storms washed record amounts of sand away revealing them. Story updated 6/28/2010 - read what researches have found.
