Northwest Rheumatology Associates celebrates 27 years of meeting it's patient's needs. Physician members include Dr. Ronald C. Fraback,
Dr. Gary L. Sultany, Dr. James K Smith, Dr. Anita A. Goel, and Dr. Mollie E. Thompson. Together as a team they have expanded services to include, an infusion center, x-ray, and bone density testing for osteoporosis.
Ronald C. Fraback, M.D. Dr. Ronald Fraback received his MD from Oregon Health Sciences University and did his residency and fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Fraback is board certified in rheumatology and internal medicine. He is a fellow in the American College of Rheumatology and American College of Physicians. Dr. Fraback is the founder of Northwest Rheumatology Associates and has been in private practice since 1977. He is a past president of the St. Vincent Hospital medical staff.
Gary L. Sultany, M.D. Dr. Gary Sultany received his MD degree from the University of Minnesota and served his internship and residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He did advanced training in rheumatology and immunology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Sultany is board certified in rheumatology and internal medicine. He has been in practice with Northwest Rheumatology Associates since 1982. He is a member of the American College of Rheumatology.
James K. Smith, M.D. Dr. Smith received his MD from Medical College of Georgia in 1985, served his internship and residency in internal medicine at Metropolitan Hospital, New York and his fellowship in rheumatology at New York University and Hospital for Joint Diseases/Orthopaedic Institute. Dr. Smith has been in private practice limited to Rheumatology since 1991. He is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology. Special interests are in the treatment of severe autoimmune diseases with recently available biologically specific medications. Dr. Smith encourages regular exercise as a means of improving mobility and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Leading an active lifestyle involved in activities such as skiing, jogging, tennis and weight training are part of Dr. Smith’s normal routine.
Anita A. Goel, M.D. Dr. Goel received her MD from the University of Wales College of Medicine in Cardiff, Wales, U.K. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh and her fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Goel is board certified in rheumatology and internal medicine. Before joining Northwest Rheumatology Associates in 2001, she practiced rheumatology in Iowa for 3 years. Dr. Goel is a current member of the Rheumatoid Arthritis Investigational Network (RAIN), which conducts clinical research in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. In 2004 she received the RAIN clinical researcher of the year award. This award is given annually to the clinical researcher who has made the most significant contribution to improve the treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. In addition she holds a Clinical Assistant Professor position in the Division of Arthritis and Rheumatic Diseases at the Oregon Health & Science University and actively participates in the St. Vincent Internal Medicine Residency teaching program.
Mollie E. Thompson, M.D., PhD. Dr. Thompson received her MD from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in rheumatology at Oregon Health Sciences University. Dr. Thompson is board certified in internal medicine and board certified in rheumatology. Dr. Thompson also holds a Masters Degree in geology and a Ph.D. in materials engineering. Before joining Northwest Rheumatology Associates in 2003 and prior to pursuing a career in the field of medicine, Dr. Thompson was on the research staff of Sandia National Laboratories working in the Department of Earth and Environment.
