The traditional education at Zion emphasizes the fundamentals of reading, writing, math and science. Individual student needs are addressed. Mid-term and quarterly report cards offer regular feedback to students and parents.
Our National-based curriculum has been developed to provide continuity from one grade to the next, building on fundamental concepts from year to year.
Zion uses standardized testing every Fall, ITBS/CogAT (Iowa Tests of Basic Skills), for grades 1-8. Zion students exceed national averages in all topics. Results are used to diagnose both student and curricular needs.
Teacher home visits at the start of the school year establish a close relationship with students and their families. Parent/teacher conferences held twice a year (and by request) encourage these relationships.
Smaller class sizes provide a low student to teacher ratio and individualized attention. Larger classes are supported by teacher aids.
