Based out of Portland, Oregon, Benthic provides in-water consulting and sampling services to support
a wide variety of engineering, environmental and geotechnical projects.
We offer sediment characterization, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, engineering analysis and design with specialized expertise in all of the following areas.
Vibracoring is the industry standard for collecting continuous, undisturbed core samples of underwater sediments and wetland soils. Unlike traditional methods, this technology is quicker, less expensive and can be used over a wide range of water depths. Benthic crews have used vibracore technology to collect sediment cores in diverse conditions, ranging from 20-foot cores in the deeper portions of the lower Columbia River to three-foot cores in shallow waters of the Columbia Slough.
Our vibracoring equipment includes:
Rossfelder P-3C modular vibracore
Buoyancy frame and float package for deep water sampling or higher current conditions
Core barrel (stainless steel, 4” outside diameter, 1/16” wall thickness)
Cutter shoe (stainless steel, with sand catchers for sample retention)
Liner (transparent cellulose acetate butyrate, rigid 1/8” or semi-rigid 1/16” wall thickness)
Delineation of contaminated sediments
Human health and ecological risk assessments
Geotechnical engineering and in-water slope stability analysis
