In 1943, Dr. Clarence G. Carkner opened his practice with a commitment to providing his patients with the best eye care available. His philosophy, "The patient is always number one," is still the philosophy that his sons and his grandson hold today, offering individual and personalized care to their patients.

Dr. Carkner believed that staying on the cutting edge of optometric technology was one way he could better serve his patients. Traveling around the continent speaking at conferences, he was an important advocate for the advancement of contact lenses in their earliest days. As a trustee of Pacific University, he was instrumental in establishing the current School of Optometry. His sons, Donald and David, along with his grandson, Jeffry, continue to offer the latest optometric technology and are still leaders in the field of contact lenses.
