American writer and cultural anthropologist Mary Catherine Bateson will speak at Marylhurst University about her book "Composing a Further Life: The Age of Active Wisdom" on Tuesday, September 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. She will discuss aging as an improvisational art form calling for imagination and willingness to learn. Bateson will share the experiences of men and womenherself includedwho have found new meaning and ways to contribute by composing their lives in new patterns.

AlbumArtist Portraits of Artists, The Art Gym 30th Anniversary Exhibition opens at The Art Gym on Monday, September 14 and continues through Wednesday, October 27. AlbumArtist Portraits of Artists, The Art Gym 30th Anniversary Exhibition includes the work of 28 Oregon artists who have made portraits of other Oregon artists. More than 180 artists are portrayed in photographs, drawings, prints and paintings. There will be a gala reception for the artists Thursday, September 30.
